Local Geology Excursions

Eaton Canyon, Altadena (map)
This canyon, located in Altadena, is sprinkled with earthquake faults of different sizes (vertical line in photo). A short walk from the Nature Center (about 1.5 miles) brings you to a waterfall.

San Gabriel Fault, Sylmar (directions)

This ancient fault used to be the primary plate boundary in California before the San Andreas fault formed.

Point Dume, Malibu (map)

The rocky outcropping of Point Dume is composed of igneous rocks, remnants of basaltic lava from an ancient volcano.
